Karl Lewis picked up the sticks at the tender age of 10 in Bournemouth, UK, influenced by his stepfather, a respected session drummer in the 70s . In September 1980 Karl and his family moved to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia where he furthered his education and career by joining locally respected original and cover bands.


In 1990 Karl signed up with Zildjian Cymbals (Boston ,USA) as an International Endorsee and performed various clinics and promotions over the following years. 1995 saw Pearl Drums (USA & Japan) and Evan Drumheads (NY, USA) capture the promising future of Karl by also signing him on as an International Endorsee.

The move and determination to further his career was rewarded when he was asked to join one of Australia's most successful bands, 'Savage Garden'.

Savage Garden were appreciated for their hard work and success by being rewarded with many achievements including a record 10 Arias in Australia, Best Band Award on MTV and VH1 throughout the world and Best Australian Band at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo as well as number one hits world wide with such songs as 'Truly Madly Deeply' and  'I Knew I Loved You'.


Karl toured for many years playing in over 45 countries headlining and sharing the stage with such acts as, Bon Jovi, Maria Carey, Genesis, Bob Dylan, Robbie Williams, Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, INXS. He also has performed on such TV shows as Jay Leno. Rosie O'Donnell, Top Of The Pops, Hard Rock Live and Hey Hey It's Saturday. One of the many highlights of Karl's career was being invited to perform with Savage Garden at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.


Following on from finishing up with Savage Garden, you would think that Karl Lewis would have a lot more time on his hands. This is definitely not the case with Karl doing more than ever .He  has  taken on many drum clinics under his belt for Pearl  Zildjian and Roland, headlining and sharing drum events such as Zildjian Day in Sydney along side drummers like Darryn Farrugia, Grant Collins and John Otto [Limp Biscuit]. Ultimate Drummers Day  with Zoro [Lenny Kravitz] Chad Wackerman [ ex Frank Zappa drummer] V-Drum Day  with Johhny Rabb .Karl's clinics are informative and help players learn the tricks and tools needed to obtain a rewarding career at every level. Some of the subjects Karl is able to cover include - timing, feel, playing musically, kit set-ups, playing with a sequencer, loops and click tracks, over-coming nerves, auditions and having a positive attitude.


Throughout the years Karl has played an active role as a teacher educator through out Australia  More recently, Karl has taught at  such establishments  as Melbourne's Drumtek, Geelong Grammar School, Melba Conservatorium and Victoria University.


Karl is still very active within the music industry . He has recorded and toured with such artists as Bachelor Girl, The Hampdens, Phil Emanuel, Marie Gabrielle, Winterpark and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to name only a few. He also has an active role as drummer for theatre productions by YABC/CPCA in Melbourne.  Karl  has taken on many projects also as a programmer, producer, writer and drummer and has worked with renown producers such as  Victor Van Vugt (Beth Orton, Nick Cave and PJ Harvey) Jimi Maroudas  [ Pete Murray, Tim Rogers] James Roche[Bachelor Girl, Australian Idol] David Norland [ sound track composer] and Craig Jansson [ Imagination, sound designer, sound track composer].


Karl's  knowledge and experience of dance music, programming has allowed him to  create his own band "She Said Yes" which he also produces.

"She Said Yes", has performed on channel 7's Sunrise, John Foreman's Big Night In and has a healthy following throughout clubs in Melbourne Australia.


His other current band as a drummer is called "Tweed" a pop rock band with an idie edge, which has received positive feedback from gigs and  air play on Melbourne's Triple M Radio show.


Karl also has just finished composing music for  his first feature film along side Craig Jansson and Clint Quan due out 2010 called "The Putt Putt Syndrome" as well as compositions for the The Melbourne Cup ad campaign.
